I think I've missed this all along.
Looking at the definition of threatened flank in the glossary , third bullet.
First question: the flank edge is the edge of the battle group facing the flank, so a unit "partly on that side of a line extending the flank edge" could be in front of the battle group, but with part of a stand extending further out. An example of this would be a battle group with a stand in overlap, the stand in overlap would be "partly on that side...." Is this correct?
Second question: if I'm right about the above then I think it must be true that if the end of the line, say left end for example, is a pike and shot battle group in the open (so no friendlies anywhere on its left), it counts a threatened flank from mounted within 12 MUs in front of it, if part of one of their bases cross this line. Is this correct?
If so, I think I've been missing out on some "-"s.

Re: threatened flank and flank edge?
From the text it looks like the potential threateners can't be in close combat, but the supports have no such restriction. Is this correct?

Doesn't say that those who are supporting can't be in combat in the threatened flank section. So guess as long as they are standing about they can make you feel somewhat better about shady enemy cav lurking to your front side.

Agreed. I was just wondering because support can't be provided by troops in close combat.deadtorius wrote:Doesn't say that those who are supporting can't be in combat in the threatened flank section. Re: threatened flank and flank edge?
The rules to prevent Threatened Flank and provide Support are different. Essentially, support provides a positive boost, the troops providing it have to be steady and of an appropriate grade. Threatened Flank is a negative, but the troops that can mitigate it do not have the same restrictions, they just need to be unbroken and in the right place.
