Question on scub, broken, forest terrain.

Post by DarkOmen »

I looked in the wiki and have asked a few vets but no one seems to know for sure....

IF I am attacking a unit in one of these terrains but I am on clear ground, do I get the penalty for the terrain when I attack?

I know that with the Catalan faction, if you are in the second row of forest you will wax anyone that comes in (with MF Spears). But if you are in the FIRST row of forest YOU are in trouble. That would tell me that the penalty does NOT apply.

But recently playing a number of games it seems I am getting drubbed no matter what bad terrain it is if I attack.

Any help guys.

Also, off topic....anyone else have trouble logging back in to the forum after the patch?

For those types of terrain, both the unit IN and the unit that is attacking will suffer the effects of the terrain.(unless of course they changed something ) There is an index near the end of the manual that lists all terrain and the effect of either being in or in and fighting another Bg in.

Medium offensive spear units generally fair poorer relative to other mediums in rough terrain. As mediums they dont suffer as bad as say heavies or cavalry in terms of dis-order, however they dont get the offensive spear POA as you need to be in clear for that.

MF Spearmen do better if they avoid difficult terrain which disorders them. When they are disordered their spear no longer negates opposing swords so they do much better in rough or uneven terrain than in difficult, e.g. forrest or plantation or steep hills. (HF spearmen/pikemen get no POA when severely disordered so want to stay completely away from difficult terrain.)

The same goes with mounted lancers, I believe.

If they are disrodered or worse, they do not receive the lance.

However I think if they are in the clear and are fighting a unit in rough or difficult, they will still be able to use their lance?

No, they dont get the POA. However if they are attacked by an enemy BG in rough/difficult ( impact) even though the lancers wont get the lance poa, most infantry weapons dont get a POA whan charging SHOCK troops.. Lancers are always shock troops regardless of the terrain and only lose that status when fragged
