F.O.W

Post by Magpius »

2 Questions:
1) Does Fog of War effect the A.I.? or does the behavior change when it can 'see' all units also.

and not related but...

2) The game rules dialog box has blanks/ checkboxes for many potential, additional, as yet undefined/ unreleased rule sets. Will these be in further patches, or is it a graphics throw-back?

Those are for the hidden options, (nuclear weapons, alien invasion, espionage, propaganda, and hang-gliding kangaroos), which are unlocked by winning the game at various higher difficulty levels ;)

/me nods soberly, keeping a totally straight face.

Hang-gliding kangaroos, yup, yup...

...only someone living with the Governator in charge could come up with, like, Hang gliding Kangaroos!

It's just a bit of future proofing.

another f.o.w observation...

Clicking the upgrade button can be used to check the enemy's current and potential technology levels.
With F.O.W. on, this information should not really be accessible. (I.M.O)

The current level can be seen by tolltipping enemy units anyhow so it is just faster to show it directly on map. Maybe the potential tech level should not be shown for enemy though, there I agree,

I'd like to know the answer to question #1 since I have been playing with FOW on..... I like seeing the vast open spaces of Russia and not know from where I might see enemy units materialize.... it completely affects how you deploy, vast gaps are a risk. Encirclements are harder since you can't see the defence lines until you are upon them, etc

I am curious, do most people play the game with FOW on or off?

On, the russian front would be boring without it and the russians were masters at deception.

FOW

Post by Magpius »

Always on.
...but back to my question,
I remember on a SC2 or SC1 forum thread, there was a mention, that the A.I reacted differently when FOW was off, ie. the subs could 'see' the convoys, the build up of units, the imminent d-day, etc... and REACT accordingly.
SO
Is FOW in CEAW, a 'graphic cloak of invisibility'? Or do the A.I. algorithms work differently when all opposition unit positions become known?
You could assume that with FOW off, the A.I would be able to grasp things better, than shooting blind.

nice to read a thread, that does not see partisans appearing :D

With FOW off it appears enemy subs running silent are still invisible.

Designed like that. Subs ignore FoW rules because else they would be wiped out too easily.
