Light Cavalry without LH battlegroups !

I have been making use of “Old Warrior’s” excellent “D&F Mod-Units” scenario” to window shop for images to use for the scenario for the battle of “Las Navas de Tolosa 1212 AD” (which I am working on for “Oath of Fealty”) and have noticed a number of types of “Cav” battlegroups which should have LH equivalents don’t in fact have them, in particular the to different types of Byzantine Trapezetoi (who where after all specialist light cavalry) don’t have LH groups, I have no problem with them having a Cav group as well just think that as they were Light Horse they should be available in that form.

In the same vain the “Breton Cav light cavalry” only have a Cav and not a LH battlegroup. It would also be very helpful if the Frankish & Lombard medium Cav were available in two man LH battlegroups as they would do very well for a whole host of spear/lance armed light cavalry troop types in a great many armies. I realise that if and when the “Custom Battle Groups” facility is made available we will be able to mix and match to our hearts content but not quite sure when we are going to get this ?

Is there any chance of getting and of these LH battlegroups for the Decline & Fall release, and if not could they perhaps ship with “Wolves From The See” along with a blank battle group entry with no image please ?

1) Will probably add the light horse versions in a patch after the public release of D&F.

2) Not planning to add the blank battle group at the moment. This needs some work as an idea and I think would result in some significant issues if players were to start battles with blank battle groups included.

Thanks for the prompt reply, that would be fine. Can I push my luck and ask for an estomate as to when we will get the ability to make up "custom battlegroups", amd yes I know that I keep banging in about this ?

No idea on custom battle groups. There are issues will allowing players to edit battle groups.

1) We do not pass the formation data as part of a battles data.
2) So if you create a battle with a custom battle group and put it into multiplayer then your opponent will not be able to see the new formation.
3) So we need to add the formation data to the battle data first.

Not sure when we will get time to do this. Keen to do this though.

Thanks for that. From discussions I have had with Enzo I expected that there were issues of that kind. Its better to take the time to get it right than rush things out and cause problems.

This being the case are you happy for us to make up requests for mixed groups of images for inclusion in future modules, providing this is done far enough in advance. We could perhaps have “Dark Age Foot” and “Dark Age Mounted” folders set up for “Wolves From The Sea” into which such battlegroups could go.

There are now so many nice unit images for in the game that would look really good together mixed in battle groups to give a really good irregular feel. If you interested I could put together a series of template forms in Word using the “Table” function to make the process easier.
