Unit upgrade in GS

Post by Grunewald »

Servus,

i don't know, where to put this topic right...
I played GS 2.0 with the Axis. Great game by the way! There was/is just one tiny thing i don't like and i am asking now, whether this is doable or not: as Germany we start with 16 Infantery Regiments - i used
them most of the time as blockers. But what i really would love to do, is having an upgrade button like in the very first panzer general.

Inf. Regiment --> Inf. Division --> Mech. Inf. Division.

Let the upgrade have the same costs of an all new purchase - would be way better then having 16 less usefull blockers for 5 years of total war.

1) In GS 2.0 you can eventually (by 1945) upgrade up to a total of 5 German garrisons into paratroop units.

2) Garrisons are not intended to be front-line combat units, but they are indispensable behind the lines. We use them as low-cost units to keep in cities to protect vs. partisan activity. We use them sometimes to chase down and eliminate depleted, out of supply units so that better units aren't used for "waste management." We use them to hold cities and fortresses, either because we can't afford to have the more expensive Korps units there or because they're safely behind the lines and we just need to prevent cheap & easy enemy paradrops or amphibious invasions.

Garrisons are an essential part of the force pool. I wish we had more!

Yes! I love Paratroopers - but not in the game. When the enemy fighters are not in range for mine, a paradrop is senseless. So i do quite the same as the Reich did: i keep them grounded. Why did they intentionally invent them?
Please do not get me wrong - if anyone likes these Regiments, please feel free to use as much of them as you like!! I my self own 16 units, which i would love to upgrade...
