Oslo report (scenario 9)

Post by nikivdd »

At the start i provided all my infantry units with the SdKfz 251/1 transport and i upgraded the He111 to Ju 88A.
I expected enemy naval units but i found out later that there were none. No problem, i used the level bomber on those fortresses.
The first few turns KMS Blücher took a hell of a beating. I moved it to hex (14,7) where only 2 forts can still hit it. They did sank the destroyer pretty quick.
By then i was pounding those forts with my stuka's too and a couple of turns later, they were history. KMS Blücher saved!
The paratroopers were dropped on hex (19,10) to capture the airfield. That made things a lot easier for my airforce and then i moved them up north to assist the units coming from the west side of the fjord.
Capturing Horten (13,13) was primordial for the rest of the navy. That one enemy unit sat in the way for my navy to start pounding those strongpoints. And also, the bulk of my army had to pass there. The advance was pretty quick, still half strength opposition here and there.... Rounding up those units in and around Oslo was a piece of cake. Logically, turn 8 was the end of enemy resistance. Finishing the scenario with a DV and 3238 prestige points.
The scenario can be although i expected opposition by sea and air. It is also a very easy mission, especially when complete air superiority is true. Except for the fortresses and strongpoints, the Ai gave me no opposition.
Only turns 1 and 2 are crucial if you want to get that DV. Afterwards it is a walk in the park.

Argh, just managed to delete my write-up...

Essentially I think this was too easy again (likely a cumulative effect from having a fairly experienced force by now). Saving the Blücher was no problem with using the ships and 2 strat bombers to suppress/destroy the emplacements - she just lost 1 HP - the emplacements opening fire on approaching land units has helped a little bit, too.

Airpower and artillery won the day again, and this map seems a tad too small for the number of turns we got here.

I beat this scenario with a decisive victory, but I thought the difficulty was just about perfect. I barely saved the Blucher, it was down to 4 strength, but it did manage to survive. This was the first time that I really didn't have enough prestige, with the new upgrades that became available.

I thought that saving the Blucher was perhaps the most creative bonus objective yet, very well done.

Played with Field marshall difficulty.
I love this scenario but in my opinion it is too easy. I finished it in round 9 with decisive.

Why are the ports on 13.10, 14.12 and 14.13 closed, after conquering the nearby towns and victory positions?

The AA in the north west did not attack a nearby Fallschirmjäger transport. And another note for all szenarios: SINGLE units attack from a river field units in safe positions. I think this is pointless.

A proposal for scenario description: It would be nice to know how the BLÜCHER came into this predicament.
