Sounds good.
Do I get a runner-up prize for suggesting field of battle and age of glory?

Do I have to drink them seperately? One day I'll make it to the IWF tournament(when FoG is the game played!) and I'll be happy to claim my prize.shall wrote:Ah missed that. Yes indeed it is
"Field of Glory" as publicised by Osprey this weekend at Salute along with some graphics, diags and the front cover.
2 half prizes I suppose - 2 half pints of beer?

Hi Guys
I think Art Of War is a great name for the rules. I believe the title in ENGLISH will appeal to a greater audience and will help new gamers to find the rules. The title " Art Of War" also allows other era's to identify with the same tiltle without taking the uniqueness or relevance of each of the periods below ie
Art Of War - Ancient and Medievil
Art Of War - Rennaisance
Art Of War - Napoleonics
Art Of War - WW2
Art Of War - Ultra Moderns
One title, many periods after all Wargames is the Art of encountering the enemy. I believe a good general should and would do well in any period . Well anyway this is my 5c worth

Fields of Glory, oh dear, not very evocative of the period. As someone has said, more American Civil War than anything else. I can understand not going with faux Latin or Greek as it could imply a follow on from DBM/DBA and could get confused with DBMM. But Fields of Glory just doesn't cut it.
Besides anything else there is nothing glorious about war, people get killed, no glory in that.
Art of War was a good working title and would be a good final title, it just about sums it all up. is there really a need to change it ?
regards
Paul

It always amazes me that people really believe that they can make a game of toy soldiers historically accurate.

The main problem with Art of War was the confusion with other similar products (books, DVD's, games etc). Say you had heard someone down the club playing the rules and wanted to check out more information on the Internet. If you do a search in Google for Art of War you get millions of hits and are unlikely to be able to find the appropriate link. Do the same for Field of Glory and once the name starts to filter through it will be much easier to find what you are looking for.
You have no idea how long and hard this was deliberated over. We have been through literally hundreds of names combined in thousands of ways over a period of months.
The title is never going to appeal to everyone initially, but give it a chance - it will grow on you
PS it is Field of Glory, not Fields of Glory. Dropping the "s" takes away the musket feel and makes it fit the ancient and medieval era for me.
Oh yes, we had just as much fun with the army list books and there are loads of those!

Field of Glory? FoG? I can kinda dig it. I liked AoW a little better, but FoG will do nicely.
And the title is adaptable for when the rules are ported to other time periods: Field of Gas-attack (for the WWI rules), France or Germany (for the Franco-Prussian war edition), Field o' Goblins (for the fantasy rules). I leave the other eras unnamed as an exercise for the student.
