Question on Commanders

Post by LOGAN5 »

How do you recall a commander to the force pool and re-deploy him across the map, or switch him from a garrison to an armored unit. Thanks

Select the unit with leader.

click on the small red 'x' on the leader (in the lower left panel) in the unit panel.

Depending upon the distance it could be 1 to a couple of turns before the leader is available for placement.

I noticed that the outlines around units indicating commanders are only active when the unit with the commander has not moved. Is this a bug? Do commanders lose their effects when they move?

No. The leader emblem takes the place of the country designation emblem. So it flashes to signify that the unit has not taken any action yet on the side that is active.

If the commanders are still effective after they move, then the surrounding color indicating that a unit is within command radius should still be on so that the player can see which units are in command range.

The commanders effect is applied at the beginning of the turn i believe.

So the units have received the bonus to their effectiveness. If the units move the effectiveness is reduced.

They can gain or loss effectiveness depending upon combat that takes place.

Because the commander has moved we can not show the range again because of game engine limitations.

So, is it worth using commanders or better to just buy a ton of armor and just use this rundstet guy they give you when you start? I bought manstien but when I invade france it seems rundstet pretty much can command everything by himself and the effects just overlap?

In my experience, von Rundstedt does fine for France because the front is narrow, supplies are good and severe weather is not a factor. But for campaigns in Russia and North Africa you need good commanders like Manstein or Rommel to offset the supply or weather complications, and (in Russia) to cover a wide front.
