A video which hopefully carries the spirit of the game...

Post by XShadowY »

Hi all,

I took the time to make a little video for us fanboys and finally it`s done. As you all are aware of, a turn-based tactical game is not really thrill-material to be used in a video, therefore watching it might test your patience.

However, I tried to catch a glimpse of the atmosphere of planing your strategy. Therefore I didn`t want to turn it into just another gameplay video.

For being able to give it a slightly different look compared to the playing experience I want to thank Pip for his quick help in answering my several questions of how you can do this or that...

Some things (like the animation of the units starting even before the control icons have completely disappeared) I could handle only with aggressive editing, so I want to apologize, if the images appear more jerkily than they are while playing the game.

Maybe you still can find a little entertainment in watching it.

Best regards,

Michèl

(now I`m free again to accept challenges :-) )

Congratualtions. I go to show this video to some wargamers. I hope they will join the game after watching it. It's a very good advertising for the game, I think many people will join us because this little movie.

That video was inspired DeLaVega, Ian you might want to hire this chap to make your videos :)

No seriously, I think you might want to actually buy that video's rights up and put it on the game's page.

I was sitting watching it wondering how the heck he managed to do such a good job.

Wow, captures the spirit of the game perfectly!! Amazing job here DeLaVega!!

Terrific storytelling, tense and very dramatic. Any chance for part two? Kind of would like to see how this all end (and the map looks fantastic!)

Highly recommended to watch it folks! And I agree it would make for a great video presentation of the game to attract some more gamers.

Classic :

"And what about the King Tiger??"

"Still Bogged down Sir!"

Sounds so familiar, hehehe

That was spectacular! Very nicely done - sure gives a good feel for the game. You should get this up on both Slitherine and Matrix main sites for people to see!

The 1.41 patch, and now this. The video is brilliant and so is the game. The sweet taste of success. Enjoy it!

Hi again,

thanks to everybody who took the time to write a comment or critic here! I`m happy that you like the video.

@Acererak:

Nice to hear that you already want a part 2... :-) Hm, since they both are kicked out ... and therefore banned somehow, for me this chapter was concluded in some way. But, it depends on the mood I`m in. If there will be new features or different factions, like Russia, I will think about it.

Thanks for mentioning the map... :-) Building that was a nasty job, because I had to get into the editor stuff and that`s what I really don`t like to do.

If there`s interest in getting this map just tell me in which folder I can find it and I will upload the file somewhere. But I have to say that it`s not fully functional, but rather a fake map only for the video (the forest won`t block the sight, the left ford is not accessibly ...I don`t know why). To prep it for a game map it needs a little more work.

Oh, and the King Tiger gave me head and heart ache like many of us, I guessed, therefore it had to be in the video. :-)

@shawnt63:

Thanks for the tip of sharing the video with other sites! I noticed that Iain already posted it there. :-)

So, thanks again everyone for watching!

I think the ending is perfectly right, since you are making a Video presentation for the game and you leave it in the right place for the player to pick up the story and play it out himself. I think it fits perfectly as a video presentation for the game and you did an amazing job on that regard.

But since your storytelling is also superb, I was just kind of wondering how the battle could end. It´s really amazing how you gave such an intense rythm to the story with a turn based game like this as your main tool. Very, very nice job.

I would love to see the map redone and playable. hopefully some of the smart minds over here can do the job, since as the editor is right now, i believe if you are not in the programming business it´s kind of scary. I believe Slitherine is reworking it to make it more accesible (last patch took its first steps on this direction), but guess that´s quite a task to acomplish and probably needs some more time.

But since I am sure you put a lot of job in it, could be great if someone else could finish it (Merr or Junk2drive maybe? Anyone else?). And I would love to playtest it.

Cheers
