The Median cavalry is listed as heavy armored and is treated as such in melee, but moves a normal cavalry not as cataphracts. In the TT lists, these are normal armored cavalry. Oddly, in the TT lists there are no cataphracts for the Persians, but I recall there were thousands at Guagamela.

The TT Late Achaemenid list qualifies the Saka and Bactrians as armoured cavalry rather than as heavily armoured cataphracts. Not entirely sure how the decision was made.deeter wrote:The Median cavalry is listed as heavy armored and is treated as such in melee, but moves a normal cavalry not as cataphracts. ....where life is beautiful all the time
Going through the Persian lists, a c and e charge 18 points for Median cavalry, but 12 points for b and d although the stats don't change in any list. Clearly these cavalry are very confused, fighing like cats but moving like cav with varying point values throughout.

P.S. Hmm, fight like cats, move like cav and all for only 12 points? I'll be the first to take these after the evil Bosporan cav.

Re: Major error with Persians
They did have some horse armour, but the armour for horse and man was not complete enough to qualify as cataphracts under the rules. True cataphracts had not been invented at that date - they were invented in the following century - probably the Saka were the first to use them, at least in the west.batesmotel wrote:The TT Late Achaemenid list qualifies the Saka and Bactrians as armoured cavalry rather than as heavily armoured cataphracts. Obviously all troops have to be slotted into the 4 available armour categories, so that there is going to be a fair variation within each grade. We have to have a cut off point somewhere, and the cavalry at Guagemela don't quite make the Heavily Armoured grade.
