NOt using GS until it runs, what is latest regular patch?
What is the latest regular patch for the game?
I have 1.12 installed, i don't like GS because it never runs after you install it. To me that is very shoddy programming
I run Windows 7 Ultimate and still can never get GS to run, it shows a flash of a DOS screen and then nothing happens.
Where are the patches for the REGULAR, purchased version of this game?

This does NOT have anything to do with sloppy programming. If that had been the case then many people would have had problems getting GS to work. It seems that most of the problems people have is with how they install GS and how the existing vanilla game was installed. There are different versions of the vanilla game out and you need to install v1.12. Some have the original CeaW and some have the newer MH-CeaW.
To make matters more complicated you have different versions (Slitherine, Matrix and maybe others). GS is officially supports the Slitherine version. We know people have managed to get it to work on the Matrix and other versions, but all the developers have the Slitherine version so we can't deal with issues about differences between the different versions.
CeaW uses Java and I know there have been issues about which Java version people have had installed. So there are many reasons why GS works on one computer and not another. We've made it on a Windows PC with XP, Vista and Windows 7 support. I don't know how it works if you try to use it with Linux or MAC.
One of the most typical reasons for GS not working is that the installer is by default set to install GS on the MH-CEAW folder, but many players have the vanilla game on another folder so you need to select the other folder before making the installation.

Another possible issue is that GS is NOT a product you can install as a separate program and think it will work. You MUST have a working v1.12 vanilla game installed BEFORE trying to install GS. The reason is that GS doesn't provide many of the files that were installed with the vanilla game. This is done deliberately so people have to purchase the vanilla game to play GS. If we had provided a complete GS then you didn't have to own the vanilla game in order to play GS. GS is an add-on and not a separate product.
Most people who have problems with GS working fix their problem by uninstalling everything, making sure all files are deleted. Then they reinstall the vanilla game and finally GS. That makes sure there aren't any problems with wrong version of different files from earlier upgrades.
If GS crashes to the desktop then it's possible to look in the text window that opens at the same time as GS and make a screen dump of the data inside the text window. Then it can be sent to e. g. Ronnie so we can analyze why. In the status window you will see in which Java class file the game crashed and why. That gives an indication about the reason for the problem. Quite often we find that people miss certain files indicating that GS was installed in the wrong folder or some vanilla game files weren't present that should have been there. Such problems are easy to resove.
I only know of a few situations where we tried everything and the person still didn't manage to get GS to work. Why this happens is a puzzle, but this is common to all kinds of computer games. Most likely it can be a hardware issue with poor drivers or conflict between the driver and the OS version.
So there are many reasons why a game won't work and claim it's because of sloppy programming is not fair in my opinion. We've done a lot of beta testing and fixed bugs, but the fact is that 99% are playing GS without any crashes or other serious issues.

Slitherine, Military Commander non Matrix right off the Slitherine website. Patched to 1.12. But what is the latest version of the game. Is it 1.12?
And yes I have gone over all the tech support posts.
I installed it, patched it a few months ago (which is why I was wondering what the latest REGULAR version is) and then downloaded and ran GS twice. I did it back in Feb and then tried applying the latest version and still will not run.
This is windows 7 ultimate, so the instructions about the my documents folder etc etc are really not matching up.

I have the Matrix version 1.12 and am running GS 1.05 without any difficulties, I have Windows 7 Professional. I do love this game – Special Thanks to the BJR team and all who participated. Hudson – the following procedures are what I use to manually update each version. Of course you need to upgrade to 1.04, then 1.05. The link is: viewtopic.php?t=14970&start=60
BTW – the link info is on page 4
1. Download the ZIP file (As listed in the Link)
2. Unpack the ZIP File to a temporary location.
3. Copy the files from that location and overwrite the files in the same sub-folders on my C: (System) drive.
4. Start the executable file from the C:\......\Commander Europe At War\... folder (Or where ever the base game is stored).
5. You should see the Grand Strategy Splash screen, and the version info on the main page [1.12 GS 1.05]
