Timurids

Post by whslions »

Whats the best make-up for an army of timurids

Im thinking 7 battlegroups of 4 superior armored drilled cav and the two full battle groups of elephants...swarm weakspots and have the elephants to play with accoring to the situation, how's that sound?

THinking maybe drop one of the heavy groups and get a big chunk of Light horse to screen with is one alternative

thanks

I play timurids at 15mm. Picked for a "pretty looking" elephants + shooty cav army. Played at Ascot this year and for me :) did quite well. I found I had enjoyable games with no real miss matches. I brought the nellies (who where aimed at anything mounted/or Knightly), 3 groups of Drilled cavalry and one of turkoman average cav. with hindsight maybe another unit of drilled cav would have been better, but they where there to support the LH. 4 bgs of LH and then rest of the points made up with LF/MF bowmen and IC + 2TC's.

course anything with a decent amount of foot bows proberly would have creamed me.

Elephants can be fun but they are a glass cannon. Blow a single death roll and there is one battle group gone on you and the resulting hole. They can be good as I have seen them eat enemy foot units that happened to get in the way, but they can also go poof pretty quick. I agree get some LH they come in handy and can be a real menace to your opponent, especially if he does not have lots of shooty troops.

Derek is spot on for the El. If the Germanic armies could have 2 BG of El they would be much better. If playing Timur you should probably take them but it's a high stakes gamble.
