How can I reinstall CeaW after I have reformatted my C disk?

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

I tried to send a PM, but it seems the message didn't get through (didn't appear in the sent folder)

I'm going to install Windows 7 on my computer and will them be reformatting my C drive. CeaW is installed on this drive. So what is the simplest way for me to reinstall the game.

Can I copy the entire CeaW folder structure to a separate disk and move it back or do I need to install the game from scratch in order to let the installer register registry settings etc.?

If the latter then which version should I start with and how should I upgrade to v1.12? I have the original CeaW and not MH CeaW. Do you have links to the download files I need to install the latest version.

I remember that when I first bought CeaW and installed it then I had to register a code or something to complete the installation (probably a part of the copy protection). I don't have this code accessible right now, but might find it in a mail from Slitherine if it was sent when I bought the game. But I'm not exactly sure where this file is and it will take some time to find.

I also remember that I read a message some time ago that CeaW no longer uses the original copy protection method. Does it mean there is another copy protection method or is the code completely open.

I think that some code is still used because I had to reinstall the game a few months ago and then iI saw a message code ok or code verified when I installed the first version before upgrading. The problem is that the this code will be lost when I reformat my C drive. I don't know where it's stored so I can't save the file needed (or the registry setting needed).

What do you suggest I do?

Thanks.

Copying will not work - you need to install on the new PC. Use your base installer and apply the 1.12 patch over the top - this has everythign from all previous installers.

The old CEAW system (before MH CEAW) had a limited number of installs which is a nightmare - we didn't fully understand the implications when we did it. Now we know we use serial numbers instead but for you, you will probably have to mail info@slitherine.co.uk with your order number and hardware fingerprint for us to get you up and runnign after you re-install. I know its not user friendly but we have no way to retro fit the original system of copy protection. All we could do is make sure we dont use it going forwards.

If you have the old CEAW version you need to install teh game and then send your order number and hardware fingerprint to us.

If you have the new MH CEAW version you just need to install using your original serial.
