Bug or mechanic?

Post by kutayc »

have two cities, delta and tanis, both have papyrus as national trade good. both although delta has stronger trade acumen (15(delta) to 10(tanis)) it can't sell any papyrus. all papyrus sold by tanis, to less price, because delta has much better commerce bonus as well so it's why I want delta selling those papyrus instead
why they buy from tanis, because it has better price? then how trade acumen working in that sitation? is there any way around to make delta sell these instead of tanis ? here the save file : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r-LmF4 ... drive_link

This is a bug, and it is fixed in the next patch.

How a buyer picks its seller. There is no price competition. Each region that needs papyrus picks one seller among the regions within its own trade range: the buyer’s range, not the seller’s. The pick is a weighted draw:

a higher Trade Acumen gives the seller a better chance;
distance and diplomatic relations also count.

The Commerce bonus does not attract buyers. It only increases what the seller earns on each sale. Also, one papyrus is enough to supply every buyer in range, so Delta doesn’t need to produce more to replace Tanis.

With Delta at 15 Trade Acumen against 10 for Tanis, and at similar distances, Delta should win about 6 buyers out of 10. It is a draw, so Delta won’t take all of them, but it should get the larger share.

Now ... why Delta sells nothing. A region only takes part in the draw if it has papyrus left to export. In 1.5.8, when a building uses the region’s own papyrus, that papyrus is wrongly removed from what the region can export.
As a result, Delta is never considered as a seller, and Tanis gets every buyer whatever the acumen. Sorry!

In the next patch, a region can use its own papyrus and still sell it. Delta will compete with Tanis again and should win most of the buyers thanks to its higher acumen. Its papyrus import will go away too. I have asked access to your file on drive, but I'm pretty sure that' the issue...

Now that was a good explanation!
There are 10 kind of hard problems in computer science, naming, cache invalidations and off-by-one errors.
There are also 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who do not.
