Division A
Stones1985 (Arab/Sassanid) beat Morat (Frankish/Saxon) by a score of 62 to 46.
A real tussle with both armies split all over the battlefield and several mini battles occurring. The Arab/Sassanid army just won the majority of these with the elephants prominent in their success.
Good game - thanks.

Re: TDC X Dark Ages - Results
Division B
Ironclad Arab(Conquest) 638-684 AD defeated Chris Townsend Welsh 600-1049 AD wirh Viking 790 allies, 64-43
The Arabs deployed half way up the massive hill which dominated the southern half of the map with a wood on the left and open ground on the right and further north lay the stream which bisected the map with open ground beyond it. Their medium troops were hidden in the wood and their cavalry lancers were also concealed, with the main force behind the hill edge. (see the screenshot below for the terrain features).
Both armies undertook a limited advance - the long line of the Welsh moving towards the stream whilst the Arabs did likewise from the south, moving up to the edge of the high ground and the wood, whilst keeping concealed their cavalry. Despite having many superior combat troops, their commander (yours truly) was overly concerned about the streams effect on combat which actually was only limited to being "not open" and nothing worse.
In the skirmisher action the Welsh gained an advantage and this combined with the threatening advance of the extended Welsh left flank prompted the Arabs to action - descending from the heights and cautiously moving out their cavalry. Their superior infantry finally making a decisive attack on the enemy centre, but this was matched by the Welsh success against the Arab mediums emerging from the woods and also by the seeming relentless advance of the Welsh left.
With the battle at a climax, the issue was whether the Arabs could exploit their victory in the centre before their wings collapsed and the latter seemed the more likely outcome. However the sheer fighting power of the Arab infantry combined with the temporary survival of their almost surrounded left flank and the resilience of their lancer cavalry in the face of enemy armoured lancers backed up by supporting spear infantry made the difference. Thanks to Chris for a good, close and exciting game.

Division A
Captainwaltersavage Portuguese 1200-1319 with Berber
Defeats - but only just!
mcfcivo Aragonese 1275 – 1319
66:58
I thought I had posted this result but obviously missed it out.
Evenly matched armies but with a slightly different emphasis. The Portuguese won the cavalry battle but lost the infantry conflict. The Portuguese had an excellent start on their left flank with the knights and supports crushing their opponents. but struggled to capitalise on it. The Aragonese steadily caught back up with a determined assault on the right, crushing all units opposing them. Superbly close game and either side could have won.

Division A
markleslie Papal 1440-1500 AD defeats random27 Indian Muslim 1470-1500 AD 48-17.
Pin, shoot, flank seemed to be the favoured approach of my opponent in this one, always a difficult proposition when your army is smaller than the foe and not immune to gunpowder powered thunderbolts. Fortunately we had our own thunderbolts.

This glorious company tried to stay compact and refuse our flanks for as long as possible as the lines locked.

The grinding melees and secure(ish) flanks favoured the righteous forces of El Papa and the Indians eventually gave way.
To my opponent Salute!

markleslie Papal 1440-1500 AD defeats Triarii Danish 1488-1500 AD with Swedish 1450-1500 AD allies 41-16.
The Papal forces availed themselves of natures bounty and secured their flanks on the woods, awating the advance of the enemy gun line.

The combatants lock and melees begin to break out all along the front.

At least on this occassion the overpriced and underpowered Papal dismounted Knights grind down the enemy heavy foot with the exception of their Trolls, who's effect on events was limited.
Salute!

Division A
markleslie Papal 1440-1500 AD defeats Bagatrix1805 Venetian 1440-1500 AD with Neapolitian 1443-1500 AD allies 66-30.
The Forces of Light were content to trundle forward, uninterested in engaging around the rough, until the enemies medium foot advanced south demanding a response.

The first casualties were of course the Papal meat shield, rudely dispersed in short order.

While the Papal knights were roughly handled, in the end the Venetian foot were copping it from all angles while their Battle Trolls stood aloof amidst the maelstrom.

Stones1985 (Axumite/Blemmye) defeated edb1815 (Roman/Hun) by a score of 51 to 23. A much closer game than the score reflects. Both sides had some weaknesses in their lines and the Roman ones gave out first.
Good game. Thanks.

Division A
Stones1985 (Selecuid/Parthian) defeated snooky51 (Pyrrhic/Samnite) by a score of 62 to 29.
The game was fairly close with the Seleucids having an edge with the scores at around 45 to 35. But one fortuitous rampaging cavalry charge and an equally lucky rallying pikemen put some clear water bewteen the two armies.
Thanks - good game.
