Division B

Chris Townsend's Egyptians 1200 defeat Solemnace's Minoans 1600 44 to 16.

The appropriately dry map had hills on the Egyptian side, rolling forward from the Egyptian left to some enclosures at their base on the Minoan right. The Minoans went maximum heavy chariots, screened by a lot of skirmishers, and flanked by some spearmen. The Egyptians had some Libyans, supported by a few light chariots on the hill on their right, the usual close fighters supported by massed archers and flanked by guards in the centre, and an attack force of impact troops, supported by a couple of chariots and screened by skirmishers on their left. The Egyptians advanced in echelon from the left, and so did the Minoans. Predictably the Minoan heavy chariots made light work of the Egyptian centre, but the Libyans on either flank also undid the opposing spearmen, which, together with massed archers eliminating a few chariots and skirmishers was enough. Good game.

Division B

Solemnace Minoan 1600-1450 defeats rockmanbob123 Skythians 750-551 60-44

The swirling masses of Skythian Horse archers proved a significant challenge for the Minoan heavy foot who struggled to engage the horse archers. In a long drawn out fight eventually Minoan archers and slinger were able to do enough damage with the aid of chariots and spearmen to force the Skythians to leave the field leaving piles of bodies from boths sides in their wake.

Div A

Nijis (Babylonian) defeats Bodhran (Neo-Hittite/Aramean) 62-56.

An extremely close game. Aramean chariots swept aside the Babylonian right, but their infantry finished off the more disciplined but less numerous enemy foot in the center. With their own chariotry all but destroyed, the foot grouped tight to hold off the final Aramean charge.

Division B

Chris Townsend's Egyptians 1200 defeat Indibil's Hittite 1275 41 to 7.

The an inappropriately green map had woods on Egyptian left wing and Hittite right wing, and a plateau with some rough in the middle stretching between the two forces. The Hittites went maximum heavy chariots on their right flank, with some irregulars in the right flank woods, half a dozen light chariots on their left, and a mix of infantry in the middle. The Egyptians had some Libyan foot, screened by javelins and supported by early cavalry in their woods, and eight light chariots on their right. an alternating ling of close fighters and massed archers, with a couple of Egyptian guards, filled the middle. As this was anchored in some rough to the left of centre, the Hittite chose to send their heavy chariots across to the other flank. While this was happening, the Egyptians advanced across the entire battle field, and, in the temporary absence of the heavy chariots, ended up initially outnumbering their local opposition. This led to victory on the left and centre, but, despite some initial success, the heavy chariots did make their weight felt on the Egyptian right.

Good game.

Division B

Chris Townsend's Egyptians 1200 defeat Armchairbaron's Philistine 1166 w/ Syro-Canaanaite 1207 allies 47 to 14.

On an appropriately dry map the Egyptians had woods on their left, some rough on the centre left and woods on the centre right, and some hills reaching forward on their right flank, while the Philistines had a series of enclosures, often behind some rough. Both sides went for a similar mix of troops, with the Egyptians having a few more missile troops and impact infantry, but the Egyptians managed to seize the initiative by deploying all their chariots on their right flank. The Philistines successfully defended their enclosures, especially on their left, but couldn't exploit towards the centre due to the numbers of Egyptian chariots. The story in the centre was quite different, as the Philistine spear could not stop the concentrated Egyptian shock troops, even with some chariot help, essentially deciding the battle.

Good game.
