Bond:Thanks for the feedback. 8) What surprises me a little is that your briefings are not in Russian. That could be due to JSGME. You can copy the briefings from the folder \Rome-Tutorial Campaign\Localisation\ru\Data and paste them into the campaign under Data/Briefings, overwriting the existing files.

I thought the idea was original: you can sell slaves and farm animals when necessary, thereby earning extra money (prestige).
One question: do the sound and animations work?

In the Taverna mission, I should mention that after conquering the city, two ships appear that are transporting catapults, i.e. transport ships. It takes a little getting used to at first.

The heroes, hero images and medals will be revised accordingly, but this has not been a priority so far.
In Mission 3 Fortresses, you got the impression of watching a siege, which I liked.

Yes, medals and heroes are still there from the Second World War. :!:

Try this, maybe it will work.
Windows 11 blocks downloaded files by default.
Please right-click the downloaded ZIP/file → Properties → at the bottom under “Security” check “Unblock” → Apply → then extract or copy the files again.

Well, I'm not very knowledgeable about such matters, but my tribune instructed me to also work on urban planning, so I'm getting down to work.

With the next update, expected in January 2026, a few new city hex fields will be available, adapted to the ancient Roman-Greek style. There will also be a few new units. I will design a few battle scenarios for this.

To help pass the time until the next update, I’d like to share a short unit overview here on the forum.
In the following posts, I will gradually introduce the military units used in the Roman campaign, including their historical background, equipment, and battlefield role.
The goal is to give you a better feeling for the forces you will command in the campaign.
Enjoy reading – and vale!

Velites – Light Infantry of the Roman Republic

The Velites were the light infantry of the Roman legions during the Middle Republic. They were usually younger or less wealthy citizens who could not afford heavy armor, but compensated for this with speed, agility, and tactical flexibility.

Their primary weapons were several light javelins (veruta), used to harass, wound, and disrupt enemy formations from a distance. For close combat, they carried a short sword (gladius or similar blade), mainly for self-defense rather than prolonged fighting. Protection was minimal: typically a small round shield (parma) and occasionally a simple helmet, often adorned with animal fur or feathers for identification.

Tactically, the Velites were deployed in front of the main battle line. They initiated combat, skirmished with the enemy, drew out attacks, and forced opponents into unfavorable positions. As the enemy advanced, the Velites would withdraw through gaps in the Roman formation, allowing the heavily armed Hastati, Principes, or Triarii to engage.

Their strength did not lie in holding ground, but in mobility, reconnaissance, and battlefield control. In rough terrain, ambushes, and pursuit of retreating enemies, the Velites proved especially effective and were an essential element of Roman battlefield tactics.

Roman Hastatus (plural: Hastati)

The Hastatus formed the front line of the Roman legion during the early and middle Roman Republic. These soldiers were typically young men, experienced but not yet veterans, often in their twenties. They were expected to be aggressive, mobile, and resilient, as they bore the brunt of the initial fighting.

Weapons and equipment:
A Hastatus was usually equipped with a Scutum (large rectangular or oval shield), a Gladius (short sword), and one or two Pila (heavy throwing spears). For protection, he wore a Montefortino helmet and, depending on wealth and period, either a pectorale (breastplate) or a mail shirt (lorica hamata). Greaves were often worn only on one leg.

Battlefield role:
The Hastati were the first to engage the enemy. Their typical tactic involved throwing the pila to disrupt enemy formations and disable shields, followed by a close-combat assault with the gladius. Their goal was to fix the enemy in place, wear them down, and create openings. If overwhelmed, they could withdraw in good order behind the Principes.

Tactical purpose:
Rather than being heavy shock troops, the Hastati served as flexible assault infantry. They set the tempo of the battle, absorbed the initial clash, and prepared the enemy for engagement by the more experienced lines behind them. Their courage and momentum often determined the outcome of the opening phase of a battle.
