Interception charge and stepping forward. V3

I had a situation, where a BG of four sycthed chariots declared a charge on enemy Pike BG. Another Enemy Pike BG declared an interception charge. It was'nt a flank charge , and the two of the chariots hit two bases of the intercepting unit. However the other two chariot bases could have stepped forward and hit the unit that was the original target of the charge.

My opponent disputed this, saying my BG could only fight the intercepting unit?

Any thoughts on this situation would be appreciated.
