Soviet Corps replay

Scenario 1: Battle of Khalkhin-Gol

An easy introductionary mission. Except for the enemy pillbox, i destroyed all Japanese forces; every kill helps for those heroes of the Motherland to appear.
I played this one on Zhukov difficulty (Rommel), AI level 2, reform units off.
Result: triumph
1 - Battle of Khalkhin Gol (Zhukov).rar

Scenario 2: Soviet invasion of Poland.

Things get a bit more serious in the second mission. It is a good idea to purchase a bomber and have at least two artillery units deployed.
I focus on one objective at a time - there is time enough -, first Tarnopol, than the airfield near Lvov, then Stanislawow and finally the Polish HQ. The two Polish bombers sting but each got attacked by an I-16, and afterwards the bombers withdrew to airfields. Polish tanks have a weak defense against aerial attack, it is better to attack them from the air and when sufficiently weakened to finish them off with artillery/tanks. I forgot a few times, but the Polish artillery inflicted quite some losses. I received extra prestige after the Polish trucks were destroyed.
I played this one on Zhukov difficulty (Rommel), AI level 2, reform units off.
Result: triumph

Scenario 3: Winterwar.

Discipline is needed to be succesful. The Finnish defensive line, as you can see in the replay, does have a weakness. This weakness is the place to punch through and when enough forces poured through, I split the group in two, each heading for one of the objectives. If i recall well, i upgraded an infantry to pioneer, and bought the 85mm switchable AA gun (pillbox wrecker). I also bought, due to prestige restraint, a few cheap infantry class units. Later additional forces appear and were helpful in capturing Taipale. I found the new T-28 not really worth to purchase.
I played this one on Zhukov difficulty (Rommel), AI level 2, reform units off.
Outcome: triumph

Scenario 4: Battle of Bialystok-Minsk

I bought some brandnew KV-1s and T-34 and the better Soviet variant of the German Pzjäger, the AT-1. The AT-1 did not only perform very well in this mission, but in the next mission as well. AT-1s can later be upgraded to some very powerful stuff and they are definately worth my investment.
Possibly this mission is the most brutal scenario of the whole campaign. I felt desperate and i was figuring out how to get through this with minimal losses. At least i held two objectives until new orders came.
Units are only deployed in the pocket, but i moved several of them eastward as soon as it was my turn. I lost several units, including my 2 star T-26 but overall losses have been quite acceptable. My tiny airforce remained alive and that was important too.
The side mission to place units on the location marked with an A has been succesful too; i received the badly needed extra prestige.
I played this mission on Zhukov (Rommel) difficulty, AI level 2 and reform units off; there are no second chances in the eyes of the big boss.

Outcome: triumph.

Scenario 5: Battle of Smolensk.

I have four KV-1s now, that is enough; the rest of my tank force are/will be T-34s. The T-34 receives timely upgrades and as we know, upgrading from one T-34 to a newer model T-34 is very reasonable in terms of prestige. The KV-1 is okay until the end of 1942, than it is worth upgrading them to IS-1s as soon as this model becomes available.
The Battle of Smolensk is another very intense scenario but the odds are better than in the previous scenario. I did not defend all objectives, it is a waste of resources and it would spread my core units too thin. It is possible to hold Vitebsk, Smolensk (left unoccupied), and Roslavl (left unoccupied). I did not defend Orsha from the very beginning.
My heaviest tanks have their patriotic duty to defend the east bank of the river Dnieper between Smolensk and Gomel. A nice defense is organised at Vitebsk (inf, tanks, artillery, AA) and i leave a few units at Velikiye Luki. I did lose Velikiye Luki but i managed to capture it back before the last turn, and Orsha as well; the Germans ran out of breath and i seized the chance to rectify matters as you will see in the replay.
My political officer must have a rabbit foot or must believe in the ultimate victory over the Germans, because at AI turn 11, the special Ju 87 flew into an ambush and as a result, it was destroyed. Once again, i received badly needed prestige from this interesting side-quest, although i was figuring out how on earth i was going to accomplish that since the Ju 87 is constantly protected by a 15 strength Messerschmitt.
I played this scenario on Zhukov (Rommel), AI level 2, reform units off.

Outcome: Triumph.

Scenario 6: Operation Silver Fox

I feel honored that i have been assigned to a very special mission. It is going to be tricky and risks must be taken to pull this one off.
I deployed two KV-1s, four artillery and the rest infantry. The fights were tough and i had to replenish ranks from time to time but a sufficient amount of cargo trains made it through. I hope i will be rewarded accordingly.
Two core hurricanes entered the fight, they perform better than the Soviet fighters available at this time.
Played on Zhukov (Rommel) level of difficulty, AI level 2 and reform units off.

Outcome: triumph

Scenario 7: Battle of Moscow.

A hard defensive mission, but we must prevail. At least things start right as i was rewarded a first SE unit, a SE KV-2. The first priority is to get rid of the Luftwaffe as quickly as possible, as my airforce must attack the German tanks without interference. As you will notice in the replay, once again i leave one city open to the enemy for reasons mentioned earlier. When the time is right, my army has the potential to take it back. At a later stage, prestige is donated and extra units can be deployed; this is really handy in order to retake lost objective(s). I was not always succesful but i tried to force surrender as many enemy units as possible, and it always rewards some prestige. The army held the line which has not always been easy, the first T-34 model really has a low ammo count, but we prevailed in the end. Once again i made the Motherland proud.
I am still playing on Zhukov level of difficulty, AI level 2 and reform units off.
With this battle finished, i really shaped my personal tank army mix of four KV-1s and the rest all T-34s.

Outcome: triumph.

Scenario 8: Rzhev-Vyazma

A nice tense offensive operation. I saved all but one of the paratroopers but in all haste, i lost a couple of core units. Most importantly, all objectives have been secured

Scenario 9: Second battle of Kharkov

Transporting the commissar from one objective to another is something different for a change. Once the Germans realise what is going on, hell breaks lose. The T-34s are to be commended for a job well done; the Marders and StuGs are to reckoned with.
Played on Zhukov difficulty, AI level 2, reform units off.

Scenario 10: Sinyavino offensive

After scenario 9, there is a choice between Sinyavino offensive and Caucasus. First, i chose to play Sinyavino offensive for the reason that i am not actually interested in the German unit that might join the core army. I prefer the "goody" in the Caucasus mission. I know, the Tiger tank is a very tempting and a formidable tank (at least for a year or two) but i think that the SE FW 190 has a much longer "validity date" and it might come in very handy against the Bf109k in future missions.

So, SInyavino offensive is a tough one and i hoped to field more core units. Since i have 3 KV-1s left, i have updated them to model C. I stuck to the plan to concentrate on the primary objectives, and to disregard other tempting locations that award a bit of prestige. At the end, i was a bit in a panic as i suddenly noticed there was one more objective to take; fortunately the fortress was easily subdued. I was shocked by the 88s and their devastating firepower against those poor Soviet planes, i had to restart the mission as my airforce was practicaly wiped out.

Played on Zhukov, AI level 2 and reform units off.

Outcome: triumph
10 - Sinyavino Offensive (Zhukov).rar

Scenario 11: Battle of Caucasus

Personally, i like this mission more probably to the different mission objectives, and i get the chance to destroy a lot of panzers. Not everyday, there is a chance to blow up oil wells which was to my surprise a rather easy task. The Luftwaffe appeared to be the most troublesome factor, but things got a lot better as soon as i got the SE FW 190; i am definitely going to keep it. The army is ready to defend Stalingrad.

Played on Zhukov, AI level 2, reform units off

Outcome: triumph

It might sound boring to some but I had 10 KV-1s at the end of Bialystok-Minsk... then developed them all along the way...
They worked out very well until end of 1942...
