Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
it was a bloody day when the freedom loving Lombards united cities with the blessing of the King of Aragon, faced off to the invading Imperials
the italian crossbows and medium infantry redeployed to a hill in the south of the filed, with their militia (raw) spears hidden in the woods to the right but armoured pavise infantyr and the two units of knights deployed along the woods line
the imperial mounted and dismounted knights advanced on the pavise infatnry while they deployed their large bow force towards the hill to their right
the italian bows lost some units to concentrated Imperial bow fire, but the italian medium infantry turned the Imperial right flank and rolled up the entire bow line and a unit of foot knights already chewed up by Italian bow fire
the knights smashed into the pavise line with gusto and sent off one unit after another
however the militia came swarming out of the woods and turned the left flank of the Imperial mounted knights , and despite losses swarmed the knights , even one foot unit of knights
the Ialians lost 40 % but 72% of the imperial army were casualties and they fled back over the Alps
...............and again many knights fell prisoner, all good for some sersious ransome payments
LONG LIVE FREE ITALY , ALL PRAISE THE KING OF ARAGON

German allies in Lombardy (anderarcos 11) beat aragonese (heidipie), 60 to 29
Despite the defeat of the imperial army sent to support the Lombard cities, the Aragonese interference has been contained. The army formed by the cities and nobles favorable to the empire formed a consistent line of crossbowmen and pavisiers on a plain with a small hill to their right, supported by heavy cavalry units. The Aragonese advanced while receiving showers of arrows and their few cavalry was hindered by brave Lombard mounted crossbowmen. The Aragonese almogávars and the support units of missiles and lancers that they carried could not resist the powerful charges of the Lombard cavalry, which combined with the action of the crossbowmen was decisive in their ending up fleeing the battlefield.

Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
German-allied Lombardy beat Venetians, 57 to 26.
The attempts of foreign powers to take over rich Lombardy continue to be contained by the empire's allies. After defeating the Aragonese, the Lombard cities once again gathered their army to face a Venetian invasion, which aims to unify northern Italy under its banner. After being attacked and worn down by light Lombard troops, the Venetians advanced from a hill with heavy infantry troops and some heavy knights to try to break the enemy lines. Along the way, they suffered numerous casualties from the hail of arrows fired by the skilled Lombard crossbowmen, who combined effectively with heavy cavalry units that charged as the Venetian troops approached. The Venetian left flank advanced too slowly and began to make the Lombard lines give way, its center and right flank had already been destroyed. The Lombards won a necessary victory in favor of the empire, which will allow them to preserve their intention to belong to it.

Poles defeat Germans in Brandenburg, 42 to 5.
The imperial-allied defenders took up a solid defensive position in the gap between two forests, armored infantry backed up by local knights and some elite warriors of the Teutonic Order. The Poles' Cuman and Lithuanian mercenary horse archers harassed the German left while a mixed force of archers and woodsmen engaged and finally defeated German crossbowmen in the woods on their right. Finally, a force of Polish knights through itself against the center of the line and, with valor and a great deal of luck, managed to put it to flight.

Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
Aragon met the invading French in what appears to have been the foothills of the Pyrenees, with broken ground and forest on one side of the field, and a stream as well down the middle, with rest being plains
the aragon infantry and crossbows advanced over the broken ground and the foot threw themselves impetuously at the French bows and spears across the stream
which did not go well !!! as the French had their own almugharvs who counterattacked the Aragonese in mid stream
Punching a huge hole in the Aragon line by seeing off almost all the Aragonese Almughavers ! spectacular really
however the numerous french knights were shot up by cross bows safe in broken ground, then next when attempting to turn the Aragon left flank the knights were ambushed by spears and almugharvs hidden in woods and a village, sending off several units of knights and turning the tide
HOWEVER ALL WAS NOT A VICTORY YET, but then the LORD OF THE DICE intervened on behalf of Aragon and four routing units rallied..........only fair really, given the Aragonese were the good guys, of course
French army in retreat back to france, having lost 47% while Aragon lost 22%
OBVIOULSLY NEXT STEP IS INVASION OF SOUTHENR FRANCE
BUT FIRST , WE APPEAL to the Gods, we again routed many knights, some now our captives and for sure some serious cash on the barrel there, for ransoms ? only fair really !!

Doing a post-holiday check-in. Looks like all challenges have been sent and a fair number have been completed. Fifteen days left, so let me know if there are any where the actual game hasn't started yet.

I and Luciusulla have finished our battle. He has to publish the result, as the winner. For my part all battles are finished.

Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
I've been off on holiday for a week, so going slower than normal, but all battles are well underway and I'm confident they'll be done by the deadline.
I also have a victory to report.
Castille defeats perfidious Albion in Aquitanine 40-11.
We had a battlefield narrowed by a river, and hills in the middle (but they were never very important). We had matched knight on knight action on both flanks, but on my left this just became a grind with no losses, while on my right we both had our wins. In the centre though our almughavars and spearmen got into the English longbowmen and won decisively. This English army list is a bit squishy

Castillo defeats France 46:19
Military order men-at-arms C-in-C gets man of the match. I lost on the left did OK in the middle, but on my right the C-in-C arrived late in the box, hit some serjeants in the flank and smashed right through breaking another unit, disrupting a third and opening a big hole. I was also a wee bit lucky with a couple.of fragmented units holding to keep the margin of victory

ARAGON still has battle not yet completed down in Africa...any time to complete
Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
Sorry about that! I thought for some reason that Aragon had already won. Should be just a couple turns before we break.
Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE

Re: Tides of Conquest Late Medieval campaign, turn 4, 1312 CE
I dedicate this victory not to god, but to my fellow Iberian King heidipie:
Irish defeat England 58-23
Really interesting game. Narrow battlefield because of a river on one flank and forests and a steep hill on the other. The centre had a long thin steep hill stretching between the armies, but too close to the English line for the Irish to fight on.
I deployed my heavy foot on another hill close to our baseline and attacked strongly through the difficult terrain on my left flank. The English came forward with a lot of knights on our right, longbowmen in the centre and their Irish foot (traitors) on our left.
The attack on the left went well and we broke all of the Irish infantry and turned to stage an attack on the longbowmen holding the high ground in the centre, which did not go well. The English men-at-arms ignored our heavy foot and swung into the centre and we suffered all of our losses their, but that allowed the rest of the army to attack men-at-arms and longbowmen with numbers on our side. It was a bit dubious, but the English had a sudden collapse of morale losing four infantry and a men-at-arms unit in one round to take Ireland to a win.
