Starter Army Packs - Essex or Old Glory 15s

Does anyone have any experience with the starter armys from either Essex or Old Glory 15s? I have a few questions about the figures: -Do Essex minis come with lances and shield molded to the cavalry riders, or do they have to be glued on (from the pics on Old Glory's site, it appears theirs do). My ...

Thanks for the advice and feedback so far. The minis have taken a single diluted black ink coating over most of the surfaces I could reach, but they have not had any dry brushing (I've only dry brushed two minis ever, with mixed results - a Reaper owl turned out nice, but a ral partha wolf didn't, s...

Ok, I have some bases painted up, and I'd like to get some feedback on how I've done so far and what I can improve on. I should have the rest of the army minis in maybe this weekend or early next week to keep going on painting, and I'd like to correct any bad things I'm doing early, and not after I ...

First army: Later Crusader - feedback please

Ok, I've been going over the advice here, and think I have a game plan for my first later crusader army. Do I have enough knights to make it work? Enough LH and spear/xbow to protect the flanks? CinC as IC or downgrade and add ???? Is 9 BG too few given how much the knights cost? Any advice would be...

Later Crusader Special Campaign

I'm not quite sure on how the special campaign option for the Later Crusader army works with regard to the minimum troop bases, and so far I haven't been able to locate the answer in the rulebook or army builder book (I'm still learning, so it is very possible I missed it somewhere). The special cam...

Hello again. I'm back with more lovely questions. First, inks. I picked up some Reaper black ink over the weekend, and got my first base painted all up (Legio's King Baldwin & crew). This was the first time I've ever used an ink - previously, all my black washing was done with watered down black...

So, say a guy just happened to pick up some Polish winged hussars, but didn't have a copy of DBR to know what the basing would be (and what the likely FOG:R basing would be). How many to a base & what base size should they be mounted to? 3 to a 40x30mm base?

Thanks for the replies. I think I've gotten the method for shield assembly down now. Shield on fingertip, dot on shield, mini in dominant hand to apply pressure seems to be yielding much better results. :)

Ok, sorry for needing more help, but I am having trouble with those three words that most parents fear, "some assembly required."... I've been putting together Legio Heroica minis for the past couple of evenings, and maybe it's just big hands and crappy manual dexterity, but I'm having tro...

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I got in my first order of Legio Heroica miniatures from Scale Creep over the weekend and have started basing them up. I'm thinking painting will be a good way to spend my Thanksgiving weekend at the in-laws, if I can get the rest based and everything primed. N...

We won't even tease you about stealing your old, washed up quarterback. Oops.
There is a FoG event coming up on 7 November, query me for more details.
PM sent.

A few new questions about basing... I picked up a couple small packs of minis I found at a hobby store in Madison, and now have 8 figures of Saracen archers and 4 figures of bedouin cavalry. I bought these primarily to give me some practice at painting and basing while I get ready to make my big arm...

Oh, a couple more questions regarding getting started... 1. In looking at Old Glory 15's site, they indicate they do use lead in their miniatures. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes lead-free minis? I have a child under 2 in the house and would rather get a mini that's lead free. 2. For m...

You're from Wisconsin? I'm sure there are some gaming groups in the area. You may have to drive an hour to meet them, but I'm sure you can find some. How far from Chicago are you? Sadly, I'm about 5-1/2 hours from Chicago. Closest I get is about 2-1/2 hours away, and that's when visiting my in-laws.

Thank you for the advice so far. For ordering minis from Essex or Legio Heroica, how is the shipping to the United States? Does it take as long as advertised? Do the minis usually arrive with a lot of bent up pieces (lances & standards, especially)? Are there any problems with delivery or packag...

New to game and seeking advice

I just picked up FOG and would like to solicit some advice about getting started. My biggest interest is in the Crusades, and I'd like to start off working on a Later Crusaders army. Eventually, I hope to also do up a Komnenos Byzantine and a Sejuk Turk army. First, me: I'm a late 30's adult with a ...
