hello timurilenk, You are correct in saying that the superior knights are the biggest strength of the french, and depening on who you face, this list could work. Are you building this army to face a particular opponent, because if you brought this list against 100 year war english, you would probabl...

I just used dates that were compatible with Carolingian Franks, I'm not sure if they had converted by then or not.

Haha, the guy I was playing is nice and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't use loaded dice as it was only a friendly game.

Maybe those two guys had done something to offend Oden or Thor or something.

One time I was playing as Vikings against Carolingian Franks. He had 3 units of cav charge two units of my regular off. sp. guys with archers in the rear rank. Both of my units had generals with them. I won the combat (no suprise since I had an advantage and re-rolling 1s), but then he rolled two 12...

I would try and avoid two separate allies, you will have very limited command ability not only because your inspired commander can't help allies, but if a general dies, you will be extremely strung out as far as rallying/complex moves go.

I always go for superior knights. I usually take some 6's and some 4's in a french army that I do. The 6's are really great against other knights, but you take a lot of casualties due to the large. 4's are good too, they are a little more maneuverable. Some things you should avoid: Never take averag...

I would put the skirmishers down first because then it is a mystery to your opponent where all your shock troops are going to be.

I've used artillery a lot with my French army, and I've found that they can be extremely effective if used in conjunction with other shooters.

I would never have more than one bg right next to each other because they are -2 poa against pretty much everybody.

You might just want to leave them, and do the medieval Irish (which is a really fun army if I say so myself). Then, after you've finished the Irish, you can decide what you want to do with the Swiss (sell them off, keep some for ordinance french, paint the entire army, etc).

thanks for the advice. Since I posted this, I have beaten both a free company army and a HYW english in the campaign. I have to face the germans again tomorrow. I have been taking a lot of dismounted knights versus these longbow armies and it seems to be working -- won't really help me vs germans th...

Since nobody has brought this up, I will

You may want to look at Gauls, they are surprisingly diverse. You can get the superior hf, mf, lots of superior cav, or chariots, and other stuff.

Help! French vs. English, Free company, and others

Hello all, Recently, a club in my town has started a campaign set in the year 1431. I am the French. At the moment, I have been invaded by the english, Germans, and the free company. I have been fighting many battles, and in order to reduce the one-dimensionality, of my army, I have been experimenti...

Hello, Overall, the list looks decent; 7 BGs is small, but doable for 650 pts. Some changes I would make: 1) Replace some of the ordonnance knights with Feudal knights -- 1 BG of drilled knights is plenty 2) Get regular LB instead of Cav, also get stakes, protected Cav is bad news, and LB is the bes...

All this talk has gotten me to buy some pikemen and longbow so I can morph my medieval french in to ordonnance. What has seemed to work best for you guys against contemporary armies?
