Same for us here in Adelaide. We still play fog ancients, but fog r is a better game, more fun, and getting played more. I wish they would revise fog a v2 to match.

Excellent reports as always. We have been playing 25m FOGR in Adelaidearne It is great. The larger sized elements on a six x four table give a great contest at 650 points.

Brett

Thanks that is clear on the need for limbers and basing frontage width. I take it there is no minimum/maximum based depth for the limber itself? As I said, I think I would need at least a 90mm long base.

What sized bases would you use for 25/28mm artillery limbers. Some of them are quite large.... I have my 25mm guns on 60mm x 60mm square bases (the 28mm ones will hardly fit on anything smaller). I'd say a limber model will need a base 60mm wide and at least 90mm long. Any comment? So just to be cle...

Mike Jokes aside, thanks for posting the Gustav list and its rough composition. Obviously it has very high quality cavalry and infantry. But surely there are some weaknesses. Two things struck me about it straight away (I admit I am still an FOG R novice and am still learning tactics): 1. Shooting -...

As someone who is assembling an early Swedish army I find this thread very encouraging :) Can you please post the composition of this unbeatable Swedish army?

But please, can we cut down on the amount of advice on how to beat Swedes? I find my local opponents hard nough to beat already!

I would just like to add my strong support for this concept. In Adelaide we are running a second 650 point comp this year. This followed the success of an earlier one played with 650 points on 6 x 4 tables. That tended to favour cavalry armies. 650 on 5 x 3 works even better. Few draws, still room f...

I agree Strategicos but Xyston and AB are both large (18mm) and fit quite well together anyway.

I am still learning this game too but it seems to me the main lessons are tactical, not force composition. Superior Pike should always beat bow frontally but the bow get more frontage and speed, so why not use them to maneuver onto his flanks? Also, as you said there is no point agreeing to heaps of...

For Spartans I have found a cheap unit of 8 bases of Poor Javelinemen good value. I prefer to spend extra points on decent MF for rough terrain.

I still agree that the Spartan knights (Hippeis only) should have been Elite if we are going to be consistent. The historical rational for Elite Triari could also apply to Spartans, as otherwise all the other Greek states bodyguard units are just as good, which was not historically the case except f...

I have amix of Xyston and AB Miniatures (from Eureka Miniatures in Australia) and am very happy with both. Both are large (18mm) but work well together and casting and detail are beautiful. AB has some beautiful figures with the Corinthian helmets and you can ask Nic to supply just thme if you want....

Sparta vs Carthage II - learning to roll good dice!

Rossibal of Carthage again challenged Scottilaus of Sparta to combat, as a further teaching exercise. Since our first game my FOG rulebook and Immortal Fire list book had arrived, meaning I could better know the lists and rules. I found that I had to modify my Spartans, as I couldn't get all Superio...

Thanks. I just tried the LKM website and ordered some. May I say it is a quick easy-to-use website that others would do well to emulate. Donnington have a much larger range of casualty figures but (on my PC here in Oz) it is at least twice as slow. (Fear not though Donnington, I'll be ordering some ...

15mm casualty figures for Greeks and others?

I had heard that some manufactureres do 15mm casualty (dead and wounded) figures now. Can anyone tell me which ones, and in particular if anyone does Greek looking casualty figures (hoplites etc)? Ideally it would be nice to get ones that match Xyston figures. (My plan is to mount the casualties on ...

Agesilaus versus Hannibal - learning game

Thanks to the kind help of Ross at Adelaide Group North, I finally got to use my old DBM Spartans in a friendly (learning) game vesus Ross' daughter Athena playing Late Carthaginian. it was great! These rules actualy work :) The game was 650 points each on a 6x4 table. Hannibal's Carthaginians IC + ...

I have some Arab figures I never finished painting before I gave up on DBM. I also have ordered some Greeks and Macedonians to flesh out my Hoplite army to allow it to cover Successor lists. Lastly, I have some Mongols I never finished painting, including some with scaly looking armour over the fron...

I was wondering if someone could briefly explain what lammelar and scale armour were. What colour should they be painted? Would somebody be able to recommend some Vallejo paint numbers for them?

thanks
