Re: What's Your Ultimate Game Concept for a Historical Strategy Title?
The thing is, it's already been done. The only thing left to wargaming, for the future, is to marry chat AI level of technology with wargaming. Because the current state of wargaming AI is in a word 'pathetic'. Dismal even. No better than a clever 6 year old girl. When I play digital wargames, I app...

Re: AH simple wargame with charts
YoboWargames is already doing this style of wargame.
They are the people also doing Valor and Victory.

Re: Panzer Campaign RPG
Sadly I must tell you it has already been done :) One title is perhaps old and hard to locate called Behind Enemy Lines. Second option though is more current and design is based on Whitebox, a derivative of D&D game mechanics. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/196284/owb001-wwii-operation-...

Re: Small game recommendations needed
Is it just me who wishes some games were small, fast affairs? I must be getting old, but I honestly avoid big massive complex games that do my head in. I remember the glory days of boardgaming when SPI produced a series of 'Folio Games' which comprised a small map with low unit count and could be p...

Re: Slitherine: A Haven for Hardcore Gamers
Been here long enough to know it is called Slitherine Group, but the Matrix Gamers think THEY are the ones helping Slitherine :) But sometimes strength in numbers is a thing, and sometimes it means you are not special. I like the majority of the catalogue of Slitherine Group, but there ARE other dev...

Re: Steel Tigers: Vapor Ware
Ah yes, sometimes the graphics can = fail even when new and modern.
I want to like Second Front more, but alas, the 3dish nature makes it more work than a 2d design would have created.
I like playing Squad Battles mainly for the visual style. Easy to look at.

Re: Steel Tigers: Vapor Ware
Steel Panthers is awesome, still is. Mega Campaigns are still playable. And with the enhancements from the Depot guys, it is still working fine in 2024. The fact is, Steel Tigers is an idea from 2005 or so. It's an idea that hasn't happened for 20 years. The program as it was, might as well never h...

Re: Headquarters World War II - Is coming on April 11th
My first look at it was back a while, and it was favourable. The similarities to Battle Academy is a plus for me. But not everyone liked BA. Granted if everyone liked games my way, and they were all made my way, chances are the hobby would be a lot plainer too. Going to revisit the demo, as my compu...

Digital vs cardboard.
Does there need to be a competition? No. Is there competition, yes, very much so. Do most wargamers play both? I think most do. But where do their loyalties rest. Well in my case, I'm a hard core fan of cardboard. Given a choice, I will tend to pick cardboard every time. That said, I have a great ma...

It ain't coming, get over it. Contact the Depot guys, find out how to get yer Steel Panthers installed for 2023, stop waiting for Steel Tigers. But there's a good news: " The Troop " has just left the early release status and it's a great game! with huge Steel Panther "flavour",...

Re: Steel Tigers: Vapor Ware
its because no one want to be compared as a dev against the orignal, I think they should just improve the original, buy running it in an emulator or something. Nah, it's not that complicated. It was an idea, for a while. But they lost their window, the world moved on, Shrapnel did a continuing grea...

Unity Engine insanity in the news
I will mention, I don't know much about game engines. On YouTube there is a lot of talk about the Unity Engine, and I guess the people behind the Unity Engine and some actions they plan to take that will adversely impact any dev that uses it in their game. I'm wondering what the thoughts are regardi...

Re: AI in Turn Based Strategy Games
WHY play the AI at all? What is keeping you from playing you vs you? Play your best turn, then proceed to laugh at your pathetic best efforts :) Playing the AI is like saying you can't get a date. It sounds soo, tragic. I couldn't care less if the AI is any good at all. I only care if the game has n...

Re: Favorite games
Lots of great games, but in the end I remain a loyal fan of Steel Panthers World at War version played specifically with the Mega Campaigns. This title is the main reason I even consider a computer an adequate means to play a wargame. I remain a passionate board game wargamer though, and likely will...

Re: Steam Store vs Matrix Store
The further you get from the person who made the game, the less money they get for the sale. Slitherine Group offers a free Steam Key for almost everything. Why buy on Steam if you don't need to. Pricing, well once a year I get a coupon gift if I genuinely need to save a few bucks. They have numerou...

Re: Strategy vs Time-Management Games
The problem with RTS, is the first word. It isn't real time in the game. Merely actual time to the human playing it. If in the human's reality, the game has run for 5 minutes, it is ONLY 5 minutes. But if during those 5 actual minutes, the game has simulated 5 months, it's hardly real eh. RTS, best ...
