Light troops
Wow! There are a lot of point sot cover based on only five games of experience. I have a NUmidian army and have found them a great army to play with. Sure, they dont have much hard hitting power, but add some legionnaries as allies and you can pack a punch! Light foot are rubbish in combat unless ve...

In terms of the Bretons on Senlac hill - well no-one actually proved that a feigned flight was the case did they? Once again - history being written by the winners. Lets face it, that shieldwall stood all day long and damn near won the battle. If it wasnt for the 'feigned flight' according to some s...

These are all very interesting points. I dont believe that should a picture show a sword, does a swordsman make - yet the overall about crossbows has been covered in general by a general post by Mikekh. I still believe that whilst im pretty sure the loading time is factored into the crossbowmen over...

Uneven BG's
Probably a silly question, but writing an 800 point army i came across a BG size of 4-8 bases per BG. Could i pay for 5 or 7 and set up as rectangular as possible?
My reasoning basically is that at times i have a few points left and that one more base will top me up nicely to 800!
Cheers!

Im confused here. having played Mike earlier this week, my xbow were crud - and i didnt even roll bad. I guess what im missing here somehow, is the punching power of these weapons. They dont get any POA's at all do they? I would have thought that against heavily armoured KN etc, they would be on at ...

Blimey Phil, what HAVE you started?!!!! I agree with the last comment. Its quite simple. In the example of having a BG of 6 bases two deep, with two bases in rough going (so disordered), the amount of dice to roll in missile fire is simple. 5 dice would be rolled overall (if the whole BG was...

1. If a friendly unit impedes the break off, by being too close to the rear of the cavalry, i believe the cav simply stop in front of the unit. I also understand that the unit is disrupted? Not sure on that one though. If breaking off (not using a VMD) the cav simply do a 180 and go 5MU's (normal he...

Hiya. This sounds awfully complicated. If a BG had only one base in the rear rank, then you are right, they wouldnt fire at all owing to the ratio of bases at the back. You will need a minimum of two bases to qualify for the one shot from the rear rank. Ive never heard that you can combine two BGs f...

This is one dynamic i particularly like about FoG. The fact that cavalry who fail to disrupt a steady foot unit must break off and move away to reform and charge again if they can works great. Once they cause disruption, they are amongst the bad guys shields and cannot break off - too deeply into co...

Im trying to get my head around your description. How im reading this is that ther is more than one BG firng at a target? If it is one BG shooting at a target, then it is all disrupted through either combat, shooting or terrain. Also it is the SHOOTER than has dice reduced, not the target. If what y...

Pyrrhic army question
Just a quick one. It says that some cavalry are javelin armed - yet nothing is listed in the missile column.

There is a certain amount of unit autonomy at the players discretion depending on factors such as terrain or units behind the evading unit. It may be simpler to run 90 degrees as opposed to a full 180, but there are consequences to both decisions. If you are charged in flank or rear you must if evad...

Hi! You dont do rerolls in combat for the whole battleline, just the specific BG the commander is with. In terms of re-rolls for battlelines, i understand you roll for the lowest quality - as is proper. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. I would suggest you keep the elites seperate in Bat...

Hiya Pete! The rematch was (shamefully) awful on my part - Mikekh whooped me good! Hi! I play both WHAB and FoG and have found the differences to be most favourable in FoG's favour. For instance: In WHAB when skirmishers run away (fire and flee for instance), they have to roll to rally. Therefore the way to buy skirmishers for an army are simply for two things. 1. To slow the oppo...
