Re: Leaders

I like the game as it is -- without leaders! I think the player takes on the role of "leader" & has to micromanage everything. Kudos to the devs -- a great game from the get-go!

Apologies but I quit FoG digitial

Hi There, I'm posting this message in case my two current multiplayer opponents wonder what happened to their games against me (should they ever make their next moves). Basically I wanted to apologise for any inconvenience to them, but I uninstalled the FoG game. I uninstalled the game because I don...

And in the Later Carthaginian list there is 'african' and 'roman', which should have capitals . . .

In answer to Polkovnik, I bought FOG from Amazon UK, and here are the technical details from Amazon: - Game play that allows key decisions to decide the results of historical battles. - Single and 2 player head to head modes as well with an internet based multi-player system. The system is truly rev...

I think one of the big issues here relates to newcomers like myself: A) how the game is sold to newcomers, relating to B) what newcomers expect. I expected an Ancient-world tactical combat based on real-world tactics and outcomes. I found little ingame documentation telling me what to expect. I foun...

Hi There, I spotted the typos in a multiplayer game against an opponent fielding one of the later Jewish armies. After reading your reply, I went into the game's DAG and checked all three Later Jewish lists and found the typos in all of them. I also spotted inconsistencies in capitalisation in these...

Typos in Army Lists

Hi There,

I spotted some typos in the FOG Army Lists. For example, "Judeans" should be "Judaeans" and "Guerilla's" should be "Guerrillas" (without an apostrophe).

Many thanks indeed for all the replies and excellent advice. Reading the replies above has been very instructive. Basically, I've misunderstood the premise of the game. I assumed it was a combat sim and that real world tactics would apply. But I now know this is not the case. I can also see that luc...

Hi TheGrayMouser and thanks for this. Yes, I updated to IE8 recently, so maybe that's the problem with seeing what you type.

Thanks for the reply - I assumed that superior numbers would make all the difference to impacts, so I learned something useful there! I also take your point about luck and of course that is perfectly reasonable. As I hope I've made clear, it's not the losing that's bugging me, it's understanding how...

Many thanks for the replies - much appreciated. I just want to say to TheGrayMouser that I resigned my game (thus letting my opponent know I'd finished), whereas the opponents I mentioned above said nothing, leaving games hanging for weeks without an update of any kind. Meanwhile, I take onboard the...

Hi 76mm and thanks for the reply. Glad it's not just me who's raised this issue. This game wasn't cheap: I had to buy FOG plus ROR; but I thought it would be worth the investment for a long-term gaming experience. I can't make any sense of the game, however. How can 3 superior heavy inf. units (900 ...

combat resolution? Non comprende!

Hi There, Bin playing FOG multiplayer for a few weeks. I lost all games I think. I understand the basic principles: watch your flanks, keep cohesion, use troops according to their type and ability etc. What I don't understand is combat resolution. This is a big shame because I like the game's concep...

why I'm quitting this game

Hi there, I'm fairly new to this game and have completed only three multiplayer games (I've initiated 6 or 7). Although the game concept and design is excellent, I feel like quitting already. Here's why: 1. I don't understand how battles pan out, and so cannot make effective plans. Here are some exa...

multiplayer results screen

Hi there, I'm pretty new to the game and the forum. I recently started playing multiplayer. I lost the first two games and won the third. I also have a game 'ongoing' that my opponent has never actually started (i.e. I'm still waiting for his first move after several weeks). Anyway, my question is a...

password-protected games

Hi, I'm new and obviously a bit thick. My question is, in multiplayer mode, why are some challenges password-protected? What's that all about? Many thanks in advance if anyone answers.

I bought this game some tme ago but have rarely played it because I'm not really sure how it works. I played the AI once or twice and have just made a foray into multiplayer (where I'm getting my butt kicked - hard). I think a brief, printable manual would be a real help . . .
