scenario_name = Battered Bastards

// DESCRIPTION
scenario_descr = By December 22nd the Ardennes offensive was in full swing. In the north, the 6. Panzer Armee was still trying to break through past Bütgenbach, and Kampfgruppe Peiper was just starting to feel the noose tighten around his fortified leaguer in La Gleize. In the south, Brandenburger's 7. Armee had advanced well beyond the Sûre River, and the bulk of the 5. Fallschirmjager Division had pushed south of Bastogne to shore up the southern flank of the XLVII Panzerkorps drive for the Meuse.||After 2 days of bitter fighting at Noville, the 2nd Panzer Division had finally circled to the north of Bastogne and crossed the Ourthe River; the last natural barrier before the Meuse. Likewise, Panzer Lehr had detached the reinforced Panzergrenadier Regiment 901 (KG 901) to assist in the capture of Bastogne and cut to the south and west of the town and was driving toward St. Hubert.||||Together with the entire 26th Volksgrenadier Division, KG 901 began hammering away at the now encircled Bastogne perimiter searching for a weak spot to exploit.||||Inside the perimiter the American 101st Airborne division, with the battered elements of CCB 10th Armored and CCR 9th Armored, were jockying for position to meet the German threat, now acutely aware ||that they were alone, surrounded, and running out of supplies of every type. These men would become known as the "Battered Bastards of Bastogne"...||||Fortunately for the American troops in Bastogne, 4 days earlier the commander of the 3rd US Army, General George S. Patton Jr. had begun formulating a counterattack plan. To relieve Bastogne, he would send his 'favorite' division to the rescue; the veteran tankers of the lightning pursuit across France, the 4th Armored Division. While CCA was held up by a blown bridge at Martelange on the main highway to Bastogne, CCB advanced along minor roads to the west, coming to a halt at a blown bridge south of Burnon. In the late evening of December 22nd the bridge was repaired and CCB began it's advance to relieve the beleaguered town.

// BRIEFINGS
briefing_2_0 = We have decided to send the bulk of the Panzerkorps on to the west to capture the Meuse River crossings. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division and the reinforced Kampfgruppe 901 have been left at your disposal to assist you in the reduction of Bastogne. Also, 2 regiments of the 5th Fallschirmjäger are deploying to the south to protect your flank.
briefing_2_1 = Intelligence reports that an enemy armored formation from the US 3rd Army is heading north toward Bastogne as we speak so expect a counterattack from that direction at any time.
briefing_2_2 = We are trying to bring up more panzer forces from our reserves to assist you. Now more than ever it is imperitive that you capture Bastogne before the enemy relief columns can break through. Earlier today the American Commander rejected our surrender demand with their typical cowboy flair. Now we must make good on our threats! Good luck Commander.

// TRIGGER TEXTS

// OUTCOME EVENTS
outcome_2_0_title = Major Defeat
outcome_2_0_text = Dumkopf!!! Because of your incompetent leadership we have missed our only chance for victory. We cannot force the Meuse and we will have to go on the defensive in the face of mounting Allied superiority. Unfortunately, news of the debacle has reached the top and I understand a car has been sent for you. I can do nothing more for you on your behalf.
outcome_2_1_title = Minor Defeat
outcome_2_1_text = You have been defeated.| You are to report to my HQ immediately to explain how the enemy was able to defeat your forces. I have a new and challenging assignment for you. If you think the Ardennes is miserable, wait to you see your next assignment!
outcome_2_2_title = Draw
outcome_2_2_text = The battle has ended in stalemate.| I am relieved that the enemy has finally been checked, but I must warn you that some at HQ are beginning to doubt whether you are the right man for the job. Remember, neither you nor I can afford another result such as this!
outcome_2_3_title = Minor Victory
outcome_2_3_text = Congratulations Commander, you have won a marginal victory. The Allies' superiority has been checked temporarily and we now have an opportunity to regroup. On the basis of your success I have recommended a promotion for you.
outcome_2_4_title = Major Victory
outcome_2_4_text = Heartiest Congratulations Commander, you have won a decisive victory!|Your operations to defeat the enemy have been conducted in a masterly fashion. Now, forward to the Meuse and on to Antwerp! The Fuhrer has confirmed my recommendation for your promotion effective immediately and that you be awarded the Knight's Cross for outstanding service.
